An injured reed cat was found nearby Peenyanear the Jarakbandi forest, received timely medical care on 10 August at People for Animals Wildlife Hospital in Kengeri. It underwent a complicated operation to repair a complicated Jaw fracture and several Cuts on the front legs and head. The cat is currently recovering, is being monitored and will be released once fully recovered.
Vasanth, a volunteer with PFA, spotted the cat after it was hit by a car and left on the side of the road. It was rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment. After a thorough examination, which included several digital X-rays and ultrasound scans, Colonel Dr. Navaz Shariff, Chief Wildlife Veterinarian at PFA Hospital, recommended surgical intervention.
The cat underwent surgery under the supervision of Dr. Madhav and Dr. Dhanush, where the broken jaw segments were aligned and fixed. After the surgery, she was administered antibiotics and painkillers. The six-year-old cat was given a liquid diet for a few days due to the extent of her injuries, especially the fractured jaw.
She has been moved to a larger enclosure where a veterinary team continues to closely monitor her recovery. “The cat is recovering quickly and has started hunting live prey,” said Dr. Shariff.
