Lions keep Christian Mahogany on the non-football injured list

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Lions are keeping rookie offensive guard Christian Mahogany (unspecified illness) on the non-football injured list.

As a result, Mahogany will miss at least the first four games of the season. The Lions begin with games against the Rams, Buccaneers, Cardinals and Seahawks. Since the Lions have a bye in Week 5, Mahogany’s first game could be the team’s Week 6 game in Dallas against the Cowboys. The Lions can also open a 21-day training window in Week 5, giving Mahogany three weeks to get healthy and evaluate him on and off the practice field. However, if the Lions do not activate him after that three-week period, his season would be over.

Mahogany was selected by the Lions in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft with the No. 210 pick. The Boston College product showed plenty of talent, but health concerns caused his value to drop. The hope is that he can get healthy and come on board and compete for a spot in the starting lineup one day. For now, it’s just a matter of waiting for the rookie.
