Barcelona is struggling to sign Dani Olmo and will likely miss the game against Rayo Vallecano

Dani Olmo is likely to miss Barcelona’s game against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday night, despite the club’s efforts to register him in time.

The 26-year-old returned to his boyhood club from RB Leipzig on August 9 for €60 million (£50.8 million), but has not played for Barcelona since then.

Due to ongoing financial constraints, Barcelona is having difficulty officially registering Olmo.

Due to La Liga’s salary cap regulations, the club is unable to include Olmo in its squad.

He was in Barcelona’s squad for Saturday’s 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao, but had to watch the game from the stands alongside injured midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The club has offloaded Ilkay Gundogan, Vitor Roque, Mika Faye and Clement Lenglet in recent weeks to reduce its salary bill, but has not yet complied with La Liga regulations.

Barcelona have until the end of the transfer window to resolve the situation, otherwise Olmo will not be able to play for the club until January, when the winter transfer window opens.

Head coach Hansi Flick expressed his “hope” on Monday that Olmo could make his debut for the club against Rayo Vallecano.

He said: “I’m always hopeful. I was hoping for that for the last game too. It would be great if he played against Rayo Vallecano.”

“These are things that the player and the team cannot control. We talk about it, we know it is difficult here in Barcelona. I trust the club and I hope he can be registered by tomorrow.”

“Any player who can’t play is unhappy, that’s normal. But he knows why it is like this and when he is available he will be 100 percent ready.”

Barcelona started the new La Liga season with six points from the first two games.

After Rayo Vallecano, they play two away games in a row against Girona and Villarreal.
