Ole Miss responds to Lane Kiffin’s Coca-Cola comments with new podium prop

Ole Miss responds to Lane Kiffin’s Coca-Cola comments with new podium prop

Ole MissLane Kiffin And LSU‘S Brian Kelly There was an exchange of views over drinks between the two after Kiffin made remarks about Coca-Cola last week, to which Kelly responded at his next press conference as he took the podium.

Kiffin jokingly commented about Coca-Cola’s sugar content and how unhealthy the soda was while looking at a bottle on the podium at the closing press conference. This led to Kelly’s next media appearance to fully endorse SmartWater, another Coca-Cola product.

But now the ball is back in the Tigers’ court, as Ole Miss placed another bottle of Coke on its podium ahead of Kiffin’s press conference on Monday. Specifically, a Coke Zero following Kiffin’s comments about sugar. A likely intentional move that adds another chapter to the saga between the SEC head coaches, as seen below.

“Does anyone drink Coke?” Kiffin asked last week. “Do you realize that 130% of your sugar needs for the entire day are in that one bottle? 65 grams of sugar.”

Coca-Cola’s sugar-free alternative now sits on the podium alongside Kiffin, who added that it’s been a long time since he’s had Coca-Cola. But for Kelly, SmartWater has clearly always been an alternative to Coca-Cola that he can support.

“Just a shout out to our sponsor Coke,” Kelly said at the start of his press conference on Wednesday. “Smartwater, a great Coke product. Minerals, vitamins. It’s just great for you. It’s refreshing,” Kelly said. “Healthy and Coke gives you all the products you need depending on what you like, and I love Smartwater.”
