Lorraine Kelly’s big reason for missing ITV show as she appears on Channel 4

Lorraine Kelly’s big reason for missing ITV show as she appears on Channel 4

Lorraine Kelly stunned fans when she missed her own ITV chat show on Friday morning but appeared on Channel 4’s Late Night Lycett later that evening. The Scottish presenter had previously spoken out against “work-shy” comments after spotting a Twitter account discussing her work ethic.

The account, called “Where Is Lorraine?” and with the handle @LorraineKWatch, informs its followers whether or not the Scottish star hosted the show that day. The account had previously revealed that Lorraine hosted 56 of 84 episodes (66.6%) this year.

Ranvir Singh, who has filled in for her today, has hosted 10 episodes, Christine Lampard 17 and Louise Minchin one. Speaking to presenter Anita Rani on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour earlier, Lorraine told the account: “It’s fine. I don’t mind, I don’t care. Before, it probably would have bothered me but now I really don’t care, it’s absolutely fine.”

The star went on to explain the real reason she had been missing several shows recently: she was taking time off to look after her ailing mother. Lorraine continued: “But you should never comment on things like that when you don’t know what’s going on in people’s lives, but I have to take quite a lot of Fridays off because my mum is really not well.”

“So now I can go home and spend more time with her and help her a little bit more than I’ve been able to before. That’s happening now, but that will change. I’ve been working five days a week for 40 years, so I’m just taking a little bit of time off and of course this week is half-time, so I can talk to you!”
