Former Patriots first-round pick begins 2024 season on PUP list

Former Patriots first-round pick begins 2024 season on PUP list

The Miami Dolphins will begin the 2024 NFL season with fewer players after placing Isaiah Wynn on the physically unable to perform list, coach Mike McDaniel confirmed to reporters Monday.

Wynn, a 2018 first-round pick of the New England Patriots, will miss at least the first four games of the season due to a quadriceps injury. The injury has sidelined him throughout training camp and will be eligible to return in Week 5 when Miami faces Wynn’s former Patriots.

The offensive tackle was only able to play seven games in 2023 after suffering a quadriceps injury against the Philadelphia Eagles. Wynn was placed on the injured list and missed the rest of the season.

Injuries have plagued Wynn in recent seasons. In 2018, he tore his Achilles tendon during the preseason and missed his entire rookie year. But he returned in 2019 and played eight games for New England. The Patriots placed him on the injured list in 2022 – the final year of his rookie contract – and he was limited to nine games.

It is unclear whether Wynn will only miss the first four games or if he needs more time to recover from his injury.

Edge rushers Bradley Chubb (ACL) and Cameron Goode (knee) were also placed on the PUP list, and there is a possibility that wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. could join them. McDaniel said his status is still “to be determined.”

The Dolphins open their season at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 8th.
