What to buy in August
There are back-to-school sales in August, but also plenty of other discounts as summer comes to a close. But there are some things you may want to wait until Labor Day to purchase.

Labor Day is less than a week away and school is just around the corner. Parents are in the midst of back-to-school shopping for their kids. That means it’s time to score bargains on Labor Day sales across North Jersey.
According to recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau, retail sales rose nationwide in July, suggesting potential consumer demand.
“The mid-summer boost from back-to-school and college spending and retailers’ special offers clearly helped,” said Jack Kleinhenz, an economist at the National Retail Federation, a trade group.
With Labor Day comes special deals and discounts at North Jersey malls, online giants like Amazon, and major supermarkets from Target to Walmart.

Some of the deals have already started, while others will not take place until Labor Day itself, which falls on Monday, September 2nd.
We’ve found some of the best Labor Day deals in North Jersey and beyond.
American Dream, East Rutherford
The stores at the American Dream shopping center in East Rutherford are offering back-to-school sales over Labor Day weekend and through early September.
For example, Vans is offering 30% off a backpack with the purchase of a pair of shoes, Levi’s is offering 50% off select purchases, and Apple is offering gift cards valued at up to $150.
Rockaway Townsquare and the shops at Riverside
At Rockaway Townsquare, Michael Kors is offering 20% off select styles through September 4.
Pandora is offering free bracelets with select purchases up to $290 at both Rockaway Townsquare and The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack.
The Mall in Short Hills, Essex County
Kate Spade is offering up to 40% off select items through September 2nd, Wolford is offering up to 10% off through September 2nd, Tempur-Pedic is offering up to $700 off select mattresses through September 10th, and Lovesac is offering 30% off Sac Bundles through September 22nd.
Many online and local retailers offer a variety of special deals over Labor Day weekend.
Amazon
E-commerce giant Amazon is offering hundreds of deals through Labor Day weekend.
Modern earbuds like the Apple Airpods Pro are discounted by $59.01, the Winix 5500-2 air purifier by $117, Beats headphones by almost $81, Shark vacuum cleaners by $40, and the Zojirushi rice cooker by $33.
Ashley Store
The chain is offering up to $1,200 off select mattresses.
Best buy
Shoppers can save up to 60% on a variety of tech devices, including TVs, touchscreen laptops, smartwatches, refrigerators and security systems.
Home Depot
There are discounts of up to 65% on tools and up to 40% on bathroom furniture.
Subscribe
Retailer Lululemon is offering up to 60% off women’s and men’s clothing in its “We Made Too Much” department.
Macy’s
Macy’s offers up to 25% off products such as mattresses and furniture, makeup and clothing.
Mattress firm
Save up to $700 on a king or queen bed.
Mercedes-Benz of Paramus
Mercedes-Benz of Paramus offers financing for the new 2024 C 300 Sedan and 2024 C 300 4MATIC Sedan with 3.99% APR for up to 36 months.
Nordstrom
Nordstrom offers up to 60% off men’s, women’s and kids’ clothing, home goods (including bath, bedding, decor, luggage and kitchenware) and designer accessories.
Raymour and Flanigan
The chain offers up to 30% off home furniture, including sofas, mattresses, dining room sets, living room sets and garden furniture.
Samsung
If you trade in your current device, you can purchase a Galaxy Z Fold6 with up to $1,200 off, a Galaxy Z Flip6 with up to $650 off, a Galaxy Book4 Pro 360 with up to $600 off, and the Galaxy Buds3 Pro with up to $100 off.
Goal
Target is offering special deals like $30 off a Keurig K-mini, up to 40% off women’s clothing, and up to half off kids’ toys.
Walmart
Like Amazon, the world’s largest retailer offers discounts of up to 65% on technology, home goods, kitchen appliances, seasonal items and more.
You can save $50 on a Drew Barrymore 12-piece cookware set, $50 on an air mattress, $1,113 on a 75-inch Samsung Frame TV, $80.11 on a Gooloo jump starter, $73 on an Arctic King mini fridge, and $52 on a 5′ x 7′ Kueth rug.
Wayfair
There are discounts of up to 80% on furniture and other household goods.
