“This Old House” star dies at the age of 70: Buzz

“This Old House” star Roger Cook has died at the age of 70, the PBS home renovation show announced on its website.

“It is with great sadness that This Old House says goodbye to our friend and long-time landscaper Roger Cook, who passed away on August 21, 2024 after a long battle with illness,” it said in a statement.

Cook was a part of “This Old House” for nearly 40 years as a landscape expert. The Massachusetts native founded K&R Landscape with his wife, Kathleen, in 1982, the same year he first appeared on the television show.

“From the beginning, Roger won hearts with his expertise and easy-going manner, an affection that has only grown over the course of his dozens of TOH project houses, hundreds of ‘Ask This Old House’ house calls and numerous articles in This Old House magazine,” the show’s website said.

“Dad spent his entire life helping people – friends, family and customers,” his son Jason Cook said in a statement. “One of the biggest regrets from his illness was that he could no longer help people in the same way. With that in mind, Dad asked us to establish a family foundation so that we can continue his legacy of helping people in the future.”

“Dad has identified several areas that are close to his heart and where we want to focus the foundation – primarily conservation, medical research, child education and war veterans,” he added. “Dad will leave a significant portion of his wealth to the foundation and if you are willing to join him, the entire Cook family would be grateful to honor his legacy.”
