Labor Day weekend is the last holiday of the summer and there are tons of fun activities and events for everyone to enjoy. Check out the Kentucky Flea Market Labor Day Spectacular, the Paristown Labor Day Weekend Show, WorldFest, a full-blown festival honoring the diverse population and different cultures, The Mayor’s Hike, Bike and Paddle and more.

Here’s a list of things to do in and around Louisville on the (last!) holiday weekend of the summer.

30.August

WHAT: Shop at the annual Labor Day Spectacular. Over 600 booths feature top-notch dealers selling antiques, jewelry, clothing and more.

WHEN: 30 and 31 August, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; 1 September, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 2 September, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHAT: One of the region’s most diverse, inclusive and equitable events, Louisville’s International Festival includes three stages featuring international, national, regional and local artists, a vendor village with nearly 150 internationally themed arts, crafts, merchandise and food booths, a global village, the Parade of Cultures, a children’s activity zone and a naturalization ceremony where more than 300 new Americans will be named Louisville’s new citizens.

WHAT: Celebrate the memory of Jimmy Buffet and enjoy the end of the summer season spirit at the third annual Jimmy Buffett Tribute and Trop Rock Music Festival. Featuring a stellar lineup of the finest Jimmy Buffett tribute artists, including former members of the Coral Reefer Band and Trop Rock Royalty.

The cast includes:

  • Saturday: Krystal King, EDBH (EatDrinkBeHappy), Floating Collective, Donny Brewer Band.
  • Sunday: Bob Karwin, Kristie Kraus, John Frinzi, Doyle Grisham, John Frinzi, Peter Mayer Group, and at the end several former members of the Coral Reefer Band sing a tribute to Jimmy Buffett.

2 September

WHAT: Enjoy a variety of fitness activities from yoga and Zumba to Tai Chi, hiking, biking and paddling at Mayor’s Hike, Bike and Paddle.

  • Walker: This year’s walk is a 4-mile walk with several marked turnaround points. From the Great Lawn, follow the Ohio River east to RiverPark Place and back. The longest route is across the Big Four Bridge into Indiana and back.
  • Bikers: Cycle from the Great Lawn, through Nulu, out to Cherokee Park and back again, nearly 8.5 miles. To ensure a safe journey to Cherokee Park, roads will be closed and volunteers will accompany cyclists the entire route.
  • Paddlers: There is an option to launch from Harbor Lawn or the University of Louisville boat launches and paddle downstream to meet the other paddlers. This year’s paddle will travel from Harbor Lawn downstream to the McAlpine Locks, through the locks and to the Shawnee Park Boat Ramp. All paddlers must wear a life jacket. Paddles without a vest will not be allowed through the McAlpine Locks.
