Kelly Rizzo talks about the difficulties of dating after the loss of a spouse.
Rizzo, 45, opened up on Instagram on Wednesday about her dating struggles following the untimely death of her late husband Bob Saget. Saget died on January 9, 2022, at the age of 65. Full house Star and celebrated comedian was found unconscious in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida. The cause of death was later determined to be accidental head trauma.
“Dating after losing a spouse. So crazy how controversial this topic is,” Rizzo said in her Instagram reel while preparing a pesto panini. “When I lost Bob two and a half years ago, even the thought of moving on — not moving on, but moving on — scared me so much. What will people think? What will my loved ones think? What will Bob’s loved ones think? What will the public think? It’s a weird thing to have to worry about. What would Bob think? And finally, who’s ever going to want to date a widow? I hate that word.”
When Rizzo began dating her current boyfriend, Breckin Meyer, she faced criticism from people who said she started dating too soon after her husband’s death. But Rizzo defended her decision to find love two years after Saget’s death.
The Home cooking The podcast host continued in the clip: “I’ve been really lucky to have all the support I could get from my family and friends, Bob’s family and friends. Yes, the public has been nice too, aside from a few negative comments. I’ve been really lucky to find someone who is so kind and compassionate and understands the whole situation. Literally someone where the joke is actually, ‘That’s the only person in the world that Bob wouldn’t be so angry at.'”

Rizzo’s relationship with the Clueless The 50-year-old actress was confirmed in February and the couple made it Instagram official in May. Now she’s asking people to stop judging widows for moving on and support them instead.
“But here’s the thing – there is absolutely no room for anyone to judge,” she said. “This is a very complex situation. A lot of complicated feelings. Unless you’ve experienced it yourself, you just don’t understand what it’s like.”
She concluded by saying, “So if you’re someone who has lost someone, just understand that you have a lot more support than you think. And if there’s someone in your life who has lost someone and they’re going through a difficult time trying to figure out how best to move on, the best thing you can do is just love that person, support them, and be there for them.”
There was a flood of supportive comments about Rizzo addressing such a difficult topic, and many of her followers told similar stories.
