SF Giants honor 2014 World Series champions

The San Francisco Giants will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their 2014 World Series title with a pregame ceremony.

The 2014 championship was the third championship for the San Francisco Giants in a five-year span and sealed manager Bruce Bochy’s induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame as the tenth manager with three World Series titles. Because Bochy is currently coaching the Texas Rangers, he will not attend the ceremony. Neither will Brandon Crawford be in attendance, as the infielder is in a similar situation and currently plays for the St. Louis Cardinals. Tim Lincecum, a two-time Cy Young Award winner for the Giants, will also not attend.

The San Francisco Giants will kick off the festivities at noon on August 10 before taking on the Detroit Tigers at 1:05 p.m. Gates will open shortly after 11 a.m. and the first 20,000 fans to enter Oracle Park will receive a 2014 World Series Aloha shirt.

As of Friday, the list of San Francisco Giants players, coaches and executives currently scheduled to attend the meeting includes the following individuals:

The 2014 championship was the eighth in franchise history for the Giants. They won their first five championships while the team was still playing in New York. They did not win a World Series in San Francisco until the 2010 team defeated the Texas Rangers in five games. In 2012, they swept the Detroit Tigers in four games, becoming the first National League team to do so since the Cincinnati Reds in 1990. The 2014 team made the postseason as the National League’s wild card, facing and defeating the Kansas City Royals in seven games, becoming the sixth wild card team in either league to win a World Series. Madison Bumgarner was named World Series MVP.
