NASHVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – The University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team couldn’t stop Belmont University in the second half, losing 3-0 on Sunday night in Nashville, Tenn. The Screaming Eagles, who are in the midst of a five-game road trip to start 2024, are 0-2-0 while Belmont is 1-0-1.
The Eagles battled the Bruins for the first 45 minutes, reaching a scoreless tie. Belmont had the upper hand with a 6-1 advantage in shots and a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks. The only USI shot blocked by the Belmont defense was taken by a midfielder who was in the first period. Garland Hall (Evansville, Indiana) at 33:01.
Belmont dominated USI in the second half, scoring three goals for the win, outscoring the Eagles 9-1. The Bruins converted all three shots on goal to take the win. The Eagles only got one more shot in the second half with the junior forward Michael (Newburgh, Indiana) misses.
Overall, Belmont had more shots on goal than USI in this game (15:2) and also had a 6:1 advantage in corner kicks.

USI continues its season-opening road trip on Thursday when it travels to the University of Wisconsin Green Bay at 1 p.m. The Phoenix opened their season with a 2-0 loss at Northwestern University and were playing at the University of Illinois Chicago tonight as of press time.
USI trails Green Bay in the standings at 3-1-1. The Phoenix won last year’s game in Green Bay 7-0.
