The Chicago White Sox suffered their 100th loss on Sunday and are on track for one of the worst seasons in Major League Baseball history with 31 games remaining.
This loss ended 9-4 against the Detroit Tigers. Andy Ibáñez hit a home run and had three RBIs for the Tigers. Colt Keith also had three RBIs for Detroit.

Andrew Vaughn played bravely for the White Sox. He had a home run and two RBIs. Jonathan Cannon allowed five runs and eight hits in four innings.
The White Sox must finish 12-19 to avoid a tie against the 1962 New York Mets, who were 40-120-1. That Mets team holds the modern record for most losses in a season. The all-time record is held by the Cleveland Spiders, who went 20-134 in 1899.

Only the 1916 Philadelphia A’s reached 100 losses in fewer games than the White Sox. At one point that season, they had a record of 29-100-1.
Chicago’s worst single-season loss came in 1970, 56-106. Their winning percentage was .325 when they were 49-102-1 in 1932.

Chicago fired Pedro Grifol on August 8 as the team continued to decline. The team named Grady Sizemore as interim coach and has a 3-11 record under him.
