There’s nothing like a relaxing spa day to relax and rejuvenate the body and mind. Sometimes it’s even more enjoyable than a vacation, as we don’t have to pack a bag or worry about catching our flights. Even our pets seem to enjoy a day of pampering.
Much like this happy Galapagos tortoise, who has been here long enough to know what’s good. The blissful look on her face might even inspire you to schedule an appointment yourself.

At 106 years old, Adolf looks amazing for his age! Thanks to his vast experience, he enjoys as many neck massages as possible. I totally agree! His loving keeper Jay (@jayprehistoricpets) explains that he weighs just over 270 kg and could grow to over 500 kg. Oh my goodness! That’s extraordinary. It’s incredible to think what the world looked like when this turtle was hatched in the early 1900s and what he has been through in his many years here.
How long do Galapagos tortoises live?
According to the London Zoo, some Galapagos tortoises have lived to the impressive age of 177 years, meaning some of them lived during the American Civil War. These massive animals have an average weight of around 500 pounds, and interestingly, it’s not their shells that make them heavy, but their fat reserves. These fat reserves allow them to survive for a year or more without food or water, and they can store large amounts of fluid once they find a source. Although these herbivores primarily eat grasses, cacti, and leaves, they will occasionally munch on a small bird for extra protein. Unfortunately, the Galapagos tortoise population has declined significantly. From an original quarter of a million, only an estimated 17,000 individuals remain.
People understood what this turtle meant. Viewer @doctortalon responded, “The way he lifts his head is priceless! He’s basically saying he’s conscious of his shower/spa treatment.” That seems to be what his body language communicates. Another person noted, “I worked for a company that turned Sam’s pool into a pond. While we were there, we interacted with these beautiful creatures. I will never forget being in the presence of a living being older than me and my known family. It’s incredible and humbling, and they are actually treated very well there lol.” That’s good to know, because from the looks of it, it’s a pretty amazing place to live.
Although most of us will not live as long as Adolf, hopefully we will look and feel just as good when we do. No matter how long we live, we should all be so lucky to have such kind and compassionate people by our side.
