Severe storms on Sunday night

Severe storms on Sunday night

OVERNIGHT STAY – MONDAY: Sunday afternoon was partly to mostly cloudy but rain-free, so temperatures will rise above 30 degrees and it will be a hot day in our region. However, around 8 p.m. the heat will subside and temperatures will drop to above 18 to below 21 degrees during the night hours. After 8 p.m. a cold front will move into our region and use the moisture and heat to trigger isolated showers and thunderstorms. Some of the thunderstorms will become heavy in the late evening and at night, meaning hailstones up to 500 grams and gusts of up to 110 km/h are possible. Since the danger can last into the night hours, you should have the VNL weather app to hand just in case.

Most of the storms should be out of our region by Monday morning. After that, another system will bring scattered showers and even a few thunderstorms to eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota. Some of these storms could bring hail and gusty winds to the southern Lakes Country and southern Red River Valley, so we’ll keep an eye on them on Monday as well. Aside from those showers and storms, skies will be mostly cloudy and temperatures will be between 77 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Overall, we’ll start the work week with some rain.

TUESDAY, THURSDAY: Precipitation chances will continue on Tuesday as we will see scattered showers and even a few isolated thunderstorms during the day. Thankfully, no severe weather is expected that day. After that, another front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to our region between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. The remaining showers will stay in our region Thursday afternoon and evening. In other words, you’ll want to bring an umbrella between Tuesday and Thursday.

Rain aside, skies will be partly to mostly sunny throughout the work week, so expect some sunshine. Temperatures will also be much more seasonable, ranging between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius midweek, with morning lows between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. Overall, the rest of next week after Monday should be pleasant.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND: Friday will bring the work week to a close with sunny skies and temperatures in the 25s. After that, as we move into September, skies will be mostly clear and sunny. Morning lows will be around 10s and afternoon highs will reach the mid to upper 25s. Overall, the weekend will be lovely.
