Record heat in the middle of the week, first signs of Labor Day

Record heat in the middle of the week, first signs of Labor Day

Update on the forecast for Sunday

If you like hot weather, Storm Team 7 has great news for you. A particularly strong Sonoran Ridge is bringing very high temperatures starting Monday. The good news about this ridge? Humidity, and therefore heat index values, are expected to be low. This ridge formed west of the Rocky Mountains, making it a continental tropical air mass. Hot and dry conditions will continue throughout the week until a cooldown occurs late next week.

Sunday to Monday:

Temperatures will stay between 95 and 96 degrees Fahrenheit, with dew points between 59 and 64 degrees Fahrenheit. These low dew points will keep heat index readings close to actual air temperatures. Possibly even a degree or two below actual temperatures. As of 2:40 p.m. Sunday, the heat index in Jackson is 93 degrees Fahrenheit, but the air temperature is reported as 93 degrees Fahrenheit. This will remain the case on Monday.

Record heat in the middle of the week, first signs of Labor Day

Tuesday to Thursday:

Record highs are possible under this mountain ridge that stretches across West Tennessee. Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits on all three days. If the skies are clear enough and the sun is intense enough, we could see some records broken this week. Tuesday’s record is 105, and Wednesday’s is also 106, both set in 1943. Storm Team 7’s forecast highs for both days are 101 and 102, respectively.

Until next weekend and Labor Day:

Temperatures will remain slightly above average over the holiday weekend, but there is no relief in sight. Temperatures will continue to stay just above 95 degrees. Given the trends we have observed over the past few days, a slight cooling off after Labor Day cannot be ruled out.

CPC Outlook

Enjoy the coming week, drink plenty of fluids and use sun protection. Meteorological autumn begins in ONE week.
