Josh Oglesby comes to Arizona after spending the last four years as offensive line coach under Brent Brennan at San Jose State. Oglesby began his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater, Wisconsin, in 2013 and 2014. He then worked as a quality control assistant.
Oglesby was an offensive quality control assistant at Oregon State, where he also coached under Brenna. From Oregon State, Oglesby transferred to Texas El Paso, where he was an offensive quality control assistant in 2018. In 2019, Oglesby was an offensive line assistant for the Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL.
Under Oglesby, offensive lineman Jack Snyder was named to the All-Mountain West first team in 2020. San Jose State finished in the top four in the Mountain West in yards per carry in three of the four seasons Oglesby was offensive coach. The Spartans led the Mountain West in 2023 with an average of 5.58 yards per carry.
San Jose State was exceptionally good at protecting the quarterback in the first two seasons under Oglesby before declining slightly in the last two seasons. The Spartans were second in the Mountain West, allowing 1.00 sacks per game in 2020 and 1.83 in 2021. Those numbers dropped precipitously in 2022 and 2023.
San Jose State was 10th in the Mountain West with 3.50 sacks per game in 2022 and fifth with 1.54 sacks per game in 2023. Arizona’s offensive line will be carried by right tackle Jonah Savaiinaea in 2024. Ryan Stewart, who transferred to Arizona from San Jose State, is expected to be the starting right guard.
Arizona returns a veteran offensive line in 2024. The Wildcats ranked 44th in 2023, averaging 4.56 rushing yards per game. Arizona ranked 69th last season, allowing 2.00 sacks per game. The average yards per run and sacks allowed per game will need to improve for Arizona in 2024.

Brennan told Jason Scheer of Wildcat Authority that he expects the offensive line to be a strength for Arizona in 2024. Josh Baker and Savaiinaea are the expected top players for Arizona on offense. Oglesby brings experience to Arizona, having been named to the All-Big 10 first team at Wisconsin in 2010 when the Badgers reached the Rose Bowl.
