Chicago man charged with stealing computers from Cook County District Attorney’s office

A Chicago man has been charged with allegedly breaking into the Cook County District Attorney’s office and stealing laptops last month.

The break-in was captured on video on July 22 at the Criminal Court Administration Building at 2650 South California Avenue.

Jordan Jose Ocampo, 44, was later identified as the man seen on surveillance video strolling through the courthouse lobby pushing a handcart with the top shelf covered with a blue blanket.

The next morning, sheriff’s detectives were notified that three laptops and other items had been stolen from the 12th floor office.

After Ocampo was identified as a suspect, detectives learned he had been in custody at the Cook County Jail since August 14. He was charged with aggravated robbery, kidnapping and attempted sexual assault, all of which were unrelated to the case.

He admitted that he was in the building that night, took the laptops and other items and then left the building.

Ocampo was charged with theft and burglary. His court date was scheduled for Sunday, August 25.
