CULLMAN COUNTY – A two-vehicle crash that occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, left a Vinemont woman dead, according to Senior Trooper Vu Quang of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

“Mirra Bride Dot Popee Chafin, 21, was fatally injured when the 2007 Ford Mustang she was driving left the road, entered a ditch and overturned,” Quang said. “Chafin and a passenger in the Ford, Lara A. Phillips, 23, of Cullman, were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and were both ejected.”

Chafin was pronounced dead at the scene. Phillips was injured and flown to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for medical treatment, Quang said.

“After the initial crash, the unoccupied Ford Mustang crossed into oncoming traffic and was struck by the 2014 Toyota Sienna driven by Suzanne E. Woods, 56, of Hayden. Woods was injured and transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for medical treatment,” Quang said.

The accident occurred on Interstate 65 near the 293-mile marker, about seven miles south of Dodge City in Cullman County.
