Gilbert “Rich” Aragon

OBITUARY

Gilbert (Rich) Aragon, 81, of Broomfield, CO, died at home on Friday, August 16, after a long illness. Gil was born in Ft. Collins, CO to George and Grace Aragon and later moved with his family to Boulder, CO when he was 10 years old. Gil graduated from Boulder High School in 1962 and spent his time fishing with friends and working. While working at Cornucopia, he met the love of his life, Margaret, whom he married in 1966 and celebrated his 58th wedding anniversary with in July. Gil and Margaret have two sons, Richard and Brian, and two grandchildren, Nathan and Devin. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he was active and supportive, attending baseball, wrestling and football games as well as all academic functions and graduation ceremonies. Gilbert served in the Army from 1967-1969 and spent a year in Vietnam. He was also a member of the Boulder Elks Lodge #566 for many years and served as Exalted Ruler from 1994 to 1995. He worked at the University of Colorado as a painter in the housing department and owned his own paint company, Aragon Painting, until his retirement. Gil loved his morning newspapers, fishing, bowling, CU and Broncos football, and spending time with friends and family. Through all of these activities he made many dear friends and looked forward to seeing them each week, especially bowling and Bible study groups. Gil is survived by his wife Margaret, his sons Richard (Cathy) Aragon and Brian Aragon (Seanna Hartman), his grandchildren Nathan and Devin Aragon, his brother Derek (Renee) Aragon, his sisters Dixie Davis and Patricia (Richard) Cordova, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gil was predeceased by his parents George and Grace Aragon and his brothers Terry Aragon and Pete Aragon. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan, Denver, CO 80236. A luncheon will follow the burial and memorial service will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Restoration Covenant Church, 7135 W 68th Ave, Arvada, CO 80003.
