I keep getting notifications about my phone’s low battery and I’m sick of it.
My phone, the Galaxy S21 Ultra, is now three years old, and that means the battery life isn’t as good as it used to be. Between accidentally leaving it plugged in and charging overnight (multiple times), forgetting to close apps when I don’t need them anymore, and the usual battery wear and tear, my phone’s battery life drains way too quickly.
That said, I’m not ready to upgrade my phone just yet, especially not just to extend battery life. If you’re in the same boat (or just trying to stretch the life out of a single charge for a concert or hike), check out these three changes I made in Settings to extend my phone’s battery life.
Turn on battery saving mode
Your phone will automatically enter power saving mode when the battery level reaches a certain percentage, usually 20% or 15%, but you can also enable this feature when your phone is fully charged to extend battery life.
1. Open the Settings App.
2. Scroll down and tap the battery Section.
3. In addition Save energy or Battery saving modeturn on the switch.
Alternatively, this could be a toggle option in your phone’s Quick Settings menu. Swipe down once from your home screen to open Quick Settings, then swipe down again to fully reveal all of your options. If you see Save energy or Battery saving modetap it to turn it on.
Turn on dark mode
Turning on dark mode can be beneficial for your eyes and battery life, and it’s a super quick process.
1. Open the Settings App.
2. Scroll down and select Advertisement from the Settings menu.
3. Change the display from Bright to Dark mode. Or, depending on your phone, you may need to enable a switch next to Dark Mode.
Shorter screen timeout time
When your screen is on, your phone uses more battery life. By reducing the time it takes for your screen to turn off and dim, you can extend your phone’s battery life.
1. Go to your phone Settings App.
2. Scroll down and select Advertisement.
3. Find Screen timeout as an option in the display menu.
4. Change your screen timeout to a lower value, such as 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 2 minutes.
