Mike McDaniel is not “nervous” about Odell Beckham Jr.’s continued presence on the PUP list

The preseason is over (for the Dolphins) and there are 15 days left until Week 1. Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. remains on the physically unable to perform list due to an unspecified injury.

Coach Mike McDaniel isn’t worried about that. Not yet.

“I’m confident in a lot of ways, I’m not nervous,” McDaniel told reporters after the season finale. “You’re hopeful, but you have to listen to people’s bodies and be very communicative. I know he’s very optimistic about how things are going, but you just have to take it day by day. Like I said, I’m not nervous because he’s been so involved. He’s found a way to be kind of a leader without playing, which is hard, but his mindset is right, so I feel good about it.”

The next big question for Beckham will be answered in three days, when he will either be added to the active 53-man roster or placed on the PUP list at the start of the season.

To be classified as a PUP, he must have sustained an injury during offseason practice or elsewhere in the building. If the injury occurred away from the team, he would be on the non-football injury list.

Beckham has a one-year, $3 million contract in Miami, a significant drop from his one-year, $15 million deal in Baltimore starting in 2023. He can earn more than $5 million more depending on his season’s performance.
