SMU faces a tough fight at halftime

As the SMU Mustangs head into the locker room at halftime, they trail the Nevada Wolf Pack 17-10.

It was a challenging first half for the Mustangs as starting quarterback Preston Stone struggled to find his rhythm. Stone was taken out of the game early in the game after running 3-10 for just 41 yards and throwing an interception early on.

Backup quarterback Kevin Jennings took over as quarterback and led the Mustangs on a 7-play, 51-yard drive. LJ Johnson finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, Nevada’s offense, led by quarterback Brandon Lewis, has been efficient. Lewis has completed 7 of 12 passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns, in addition to gaining 67 yards on the ground.

The Wolf Pack will try to maintain their momentum and score more points in the second half.

SMU’s defense will have to make some adjustments to keep Lewis and Nevada’s offense in check.

On offense, the Mustangs need to find a way to get their running game going and create some big plays in the passing game to close the gap.

It’s still up for grabs, but the Mustangs will need to put together a strong second-half performance to come away with a win in their season opener.
