The U17 Wrestling World Championship 2024 will be held at the Princess Sumaya Bint al-Hasan Arena in Amman, Jordan. The annual tournament will take place from August 19 to 25.
The meeting includes competitions in all three wrestling disciplines – men Freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle. In each discipline, medals are awarded in 10 different weight classes, with four medals (one gold, one silver and two bronze) being awarded per weight class.
Indian wrestlers participate in 29 of the 30 medal events – 10 in Greco-Roman swimming, 10 in men’s freestyle and nine in women’s freestyle.
So far, India has won ten medals at the 2024 U17 World Wrestling Championships – five gold, one silver and four bronze.
The Indian male freestyle wrestlers returned empty-handed.
Greco-Roman Wrestling The competition took place from August 19 to 21. The women’s freestyle competitions will be contested from August 21 to 23, while the men’s freestyle will begin on August 23 and end on August 25.
Each weight class begins with qualifying rounds, followed by semifinals on the first day. Repechage rounds and medal matches take place on the second day. All wrestlers must pass weigh-ins on both days of their respective weight class.
At the U17 World Wrestling Championships in Istanbul last year, India won one gold, seven silver and three bronze medals.
