“Harry Potter” actor Jamie Waylett sentenced to two years in prison

Former Harry Potter star Jamie Waylett has been sentenced to two years in prison for his participation in the riots in London last summer.

Waylett, 22, known for his role as thug Vincent Crabbe in the hugely popular film series, was found guilty of violent disorder at Wood Green Crown Court.

The young actor was filmed stealing champagne from a nearby Sainsbury’s store during riots in the capital in August last year.

He was acquitted of the charge of having the intention to destroy or damage property with the petrol bomb he was holding in the photo.

Waylett had claimed that he had disposed of the incendiary device in a garbage can.

He had previously admitted in a police interview that he was “fascinated” by the disorder.

“This is another successful case for the team in Camden as they seek to bring all those involved in last summer’s criminal outrage to justice,” said Detective Sergeant David Cann.

“Since the riots, we have charged nearly a hundred people and the majority of them have been sentenced to prison terms.

“We are still looking at the video footage and will continue to track down perpetrators to bring them to justice,” he added. “My advice is: if you were involved, we will find you, so you might as well turn yourself in.”

Waylett was previously convicted in 2009 of growing cannabis in his mother’s home in north-west London. He was sentenced to 120 hours of unpaid work.
