Giants suffer multiple injuries in the first half of the season finale against the Jets

East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants suffered a heavy loss to the New York Jets in the first half of their game on Saturday night.

The Giants, who trailed 10-3 at halftime, suffered several injuries in the first half of the game, some of which could be a concern given the upcoming season opener.

Defensive Tackle Timmy Horne

Horne was injured on the first play of the game. The coaches immediately called for a car for the defensive players, who were unlikely to make the squad anyway. Horne was diagnosed with an Achilles tendon injury.

Center John Michael Schmitz

Schmitz, one of the few offensive starters who played in this game after missing ten training sessions at the beginning of training camp due to a shoulder injury, had the back of his right leg rolled up during a failed 4th-and-1 run on the Giants’ first offensive possession.

Schmitz slowly limped off the field and was ruled out with an ankle injury, which doesn’t bode well for the Giants’ starting center with the regular season opener in two weeks. He was replaced by Austin Schlottmann.

Offensive Tackle Evan Neal

Playing in his first live game since season-ending ankle surgery that placed him on the PUP list for the start of training camp, Neal left the game midway through the second quarter with an ankle injury.

It’s unknown if it’s the same ankle he had surgery on last year, but Neal, who played 19 snaps before his injury, was spotted walking cautiously on the Giants’ sideline. He was replaced by Joshua Miles.

If Neal’s ankle problems are severe enough, he could be a candidate for the new IR rule that allows teams to place up to two players on IR on a cutdown day, provided they determine which players return.

Full-back Ovie Oghoufo

Oghoufo, whose chances of making the squad were slim, was ruled out due to a thigh strain.

Cornerback Mario Goodrich II

Goodrich pulled a hamstring while covering a punt in the second quarter and was carried off the field, a clear sign that his hamstring injury is significantly serious.
