The University of Hawaii football team begins the third year of the Timmy Chang era tonight at the Ching Complex when it hosts Delaware State.

The Warriors are also primed for another promotion after going 3-10 in Chang’s first season in 2022 and 5-8 last season. The Warriors won three of four games to close out the 2023 season.

Chang hired Dan Morrison as quarterback coach, the same position he held under June Jones at UH and SMU, and brought in Derek Fa’avi as offensive line coach. Fa’avi was the Warriors’ MVP in 2005. With the help of consultants Dennis McKnight and Samson Satele, Fa’avi developed blocking schemes and footwork specifically tailored to the run-and-shoot offense.

Chang, who will again call the offensive plays, has eliminated the one-tight end packages and revived the four-wide schemes.

Delaware State, an FCS school, finished 1-10 last season under Lee Hull, who returns for his sophomore season.

The Hornets were scheduled to land in Honolulu on Tuesday but missed their original flight. The team arrived in separate groups on Wednesday and Thursday.

Kick-off is at 6pm
