Nate McMillan, an NBA coach and Raleigh native, uses his platform to improve the lives of boys from single-parent households.

He recently completed a three-day camp at New Life Camp, a unique experience that gave 75 teenage boys the opportunity to dream big and envision their future.

Participants visited Lenovo, where they learned about technology, computers and gaming. They also attended public speaking events and financial literacy classes at Bank of America and learned about different career paths.

“We want to provide them with programs that equip them with the tools, values and mindset they need to live positive and purposeful lives. We want to give them the opportunity to go through our programs,” said Nate McMillan of the Nate McMillan Foundation.

McMillan, an NC State legend and NBA veteran who himself grew up in a single-parent household, is committed to bridging the gap between young men.

“I wanted to get involved in providing programs like this because I believe our children don’t have enough resources,” he said. “Many people are working to make a difference, but sometimes parents don’t know who to turn to.”

The Foundation’s motto, “Dream, Commit, Act,” reflects its mission to inspire and support these boys.

McMillan recently accepted a position as assistant head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers and pledged that he will continue to support the foundation.

“Even though I’m moving to Los Angeles, I’m not leaving my commitment to these guys behind. We’re going to continue our work and I’m going to stay involved,” McMillan said.
