DJ Uiagalelei’s first half for the Seminoles was not what FSU wanted or needed

DJ Uiagalelei’s first half for the Seminoles was not what FSU wanted or needed

The game everyone has been waiting for: the opening game of the 2024 season between the Florida State Seminoles and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Florida State was out for revenge and Georgia Tech wanted to prove they deserved to be in the race for the ACC championship.

The Seminoles have a new quarterback and Georgia Tech is loaded with returning starters.

DJ Uiagalelei, FSU’s new QB1 from Oregon State, was supposed to be the new leader of the Noles offense.

As the first half progressed, however, Uiagalelei’s performance left much to be desired.

In the first quarter, DJU only had eight pass attempts. Sure, he completed seven of them for 62 yards, but it looked like head coach Mike Norvell didn’t quite trust his quarterback to make a deep throw.

To be completely honest, the quarterbacks on both sides were not particularly convincing throughout the first half.

Georgia Tech’s Haynes King had fewer than 10 pass attempts over the course of 30 minutes and completed just three passes in the first half.

King made some great runs to keep his team’s offense alive in the second quarter.

However, no one expected King to perform exceptionally, especially against Florida State’s strong defense.

Uiagalelei’s accuracy was undeniable. However, he averaged only 6.5 yards per pass for the entire half.

Florida State’s offense struggled to score points and ended the half tied with Georgia Tech at 14 points each, with 6 of FSU’s points coming from field goals.

The Seminoles relied heavily on their running game. With four running backs, Florida State rushed for 78 yards and the team’s only touchdown of the half.
