Evacuations ordered after new fire breaks out along Juab-Tooele County border

Evacuations were ordered after a new fire broke out near the Juab-Tooele County border.

The Boulter Fire along SR-36 has reached more than 1,000 acres and continues to spread due to strong and erratic winds, Utah Fire Info reported.

The fire is estimated to be about eight miles from 5 Mile Pass and is “spreading rapidly.” A wind shift from the west is believed to have moved the fire into the Tintic Mountain Range north of Eureka.

SR-36 was closed in both directions at mile marker nine, three miles from the county line.

Evacuations were ordered between Vernon and Eureka.

Numerous ground troops are on site and more have been requested.

The authorities are urging the population to avoid the area.

Strong winds are bringing smoke to Salt Lake City and surrounding communities, Salt Lake City police said.

“Please do not call 9-1-1 to ask about smoke in the air – save 9-1-1 for true emergencies, such as seeing smoke or fire,” police said. “If you are concerned because you smell smoke and still want to report it, first check local media reports of nearby fires or incidents, then call our non-emergency number at 801-799-3000.”

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
