The Brooklyn Cyclones entered the field not on brooms, but with gloves and bats during their Harry Potter Night game on July 28 against the The Emperors of Rome.
Fans, also known as Muggles in Maimonides Park, streamed in as if they were going to Potions class with Snape.
“I just love Emma Watson,” one fan commented after stumbling upon a few of the spells he knew. “Gryffindor has all the major players, the coolest name, and the coolest colors.”
AAnother fan equated a Harry Potter character with his support of the Cyclones. “My main man Cedric Diggory gave his life for this team,” he said. “(A lot of) loyalty to Hufflepuff, and I think that’s a quality I look for.”
The first 1,500 fans at Maimonides Park received Hogwarts baseball jerseys representing each of the four Hogwarts houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.
The Cyclones eventually lost to the Rome Emperors by a final score of 5-1. The Cyclones took an early lead in the third inning, but lost it in the fifth inning.
If you want to join in the fun, support your hometown baseball team, and dive headfirst into a topic, you can head to Seinfeld Night at Maimonides Park on August 10, where the Cyclones will take on the Hudson Valley Renegades.
