Stellenbosch beat Nsingizini Hotspurs, UWC women qualify for CAF Champions League

Stellenbosch FC beat Nsingizini Hotspurs 5-0 on Saturday, securing an 8-0 aggregate victory over the Eswatini club and a place in the next qualifying round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Thanks to goals from Lehlogonolo Mojela and Langelihle Phili, Stellies took a 2-0 lead at half-time. Andre de Jong, Omega Mdaka and Mervin Boji scored three more goals in the second half.

Also on Saturday, the UWC women’s team became the first university club ever to qualify for the CAF Champions League by defeating Gabarone United on penalties after their match ended 1-1 after extra time.

They will take part in the competition together with defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
