The 2024 college football season officially began on Saturday, and the tenth-ranked Florida State Seminoles went just under with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech scored a game-winning field goal as time expired and won 24-21 in Dublin, Ireland.
After the loss to the Yellow Jackets, FSU Running Back Lawrence Toafili – Wikipedia and his teammates are not panicking about the rest of the 2024 season.
“I mean, I think it’s just like coach said, it’s the little details, man. We’ve got to work out certain things. Me too. I’ve got to be more explosive. Make the plays that need to be made. But for the most part, it’s just about working out those little details. I think we’re still in a good position,” Toafili explained.

The star tailback is not worried about whether the team will be on the right track for the rest of the 2024 season.
“I mean, I know how we work and I know what this team is about, so I think we basically just need to focus on ourselves. You know. We just need to get better and that’s how we’re going to go about our work,” Toafili concluded.
In the loss, he finished the game with eight carries for 32 rushing yards and a touchdown, and he also caught three balls through the air for 25 yards.
Florida State loses to Georgia Tech in season opener
In the last seconds it was Georgia Tech kicker Aidan Birrwho had missed a field goal earlier in the game. His second attempt from 44 yards was successful and gave the Yellow Jackets the victory over the 10th-ranked Seminoles in the first game of the year.

Florida State struck first after Georgia Tech deferred. Toafili ran 28 yards into the end zone and Mike Norvell got creative in an attempt at a two-point conversion. The swinging gate worked and gave the Seminoles an early 8-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets.
But Georgia Tech didn’t give in. Haynes King led an impressive opening drive and Zach Pyronwho was eliminated for a red zone package, used a quarterback draw to get on the scoreboard and bring the game to 8-7.
After a 52-yard field goal by Ryan Fitzgerald extended FSU’s lead to 11-7, Georgia Tech managed a precise 7:53 run, crowned by a Jamal Haynes Touchdown that gave the Yellow Jackets a 14-11 lead, a score that remained until Fitzgerald tied the score on a 59-yard attempt at halftime.
A missed field goal by Georgia Tech opened the second half and the game remained tied until the fourth quarter. Then, after a 6:22 run, the Yellow Jackets found the end zone again on Haynes’ second touchdown run of the day to take a 21-14 lead.
However, the state of Florida was up to the challenge. DJ Uiagalelei made several big throws in the following possession and Roydell Williams With 6:33 left, the score was tied at 21-21. Georgia Tech had the ball back and King again led an impressive, time-consuming possession.
It ended with Birr’s field goal, which sealed the victory with a score of 24:21. The Yellow Jackets thus pulled off a big surprise in the first game of the year.
King had a great day as a dual threat, throwing for 146 passing yards and adding 54 rushing yards on the ground. In addition to his two rushing touchdowns, King added 75 rushing yards to lead a Georgia Tech offense that, in the words of coach Brent Keydecided to let the ball run.
On the FSU side, Uiagalelei had problems in his debut after being State of Oregon. He completed 19 of 27 passes for 193 yards, but had trouble throwing the ball down the field. Georgia Tech also stymied the Seminoles’ running game, holding them to 98 yards on the ground, led by 38 yards from Roydell Williams.
