Rock en Seine 2024: Day 3 with Soulwax, Jungle, Fred Again… we were there, we tell you all about it

A third day of Rock en Seine, 2024 edition! While fatigue was already showing on some faces, the celebrations continued this Friday, August 23 at the Domaine national de Saint-Cloud with British rapper Loyle Carner, the project Jungle which mixes dance and funk, English producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist Fred Again and not forgetting the Belgians from Soulwax who delivered an explosive set! Let’s take a look back at Friday, August 23, 2024 at Rock en Seine.

At Rock en SeineOne day follows the other, but no two are the same. After an opening day marked by Lana Del Rey’s extravagant show, the second day was definitely rockier, with sets by The Last Dinner Party, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, The Hives, Gossip and Maneskin. Friday, August 23, 2024, The festival from the Paris region dared to take a new approach with soul, hip-hop and electro to excite the audience.

We start the day with the soulful music of the young British singer Olivia Deanaccompanied by her musicians (guitar, bass, drums, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and keyboard). The artist named Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse and The Supremes as her influences and was always in a good mood at the end. Cascade stage this Friday in front of a full audience. In fact, it was difficult to get close to the stage. AlthoughOlivia Dean has not yet released an LP, many in the audience already knew the lyrics of their songs by heart. This was the case with “ Ok, love you, bye “, “ What will I do on Sundays? ” And ” Messy “. In short, a masterful set to kick off the third day of Rock en Seine.

A different stage, a different atmosphere, with a concert by the British rapper Loyle Carner. ” Rap at Rock en Seine? “, some asked… Yes, but not just any rap. For Loyle Carner is a virtuoso of the genre, considered by many to be one of the leaders of a new generation to watch closely. This Friday, the hip-hop artist confirmed his incredible talent for swinging a lazy flow sublimated by a few jazzy tones. Starting from his personal history (racism, dyslexia, hyperactivity…), Loyle Carner and his musicians (guitar, bass and drums) enchanted us with their touching and deeply generous set.

We stay on the Big scene catch jungle ‘s summer set! Jungle is this British music project that was launched in 2013. Since then, the band – founded by childhood friends Josh Lloyd Watson And Tom McFarland – has published four works, the latest of which is entitled“Volcano“. Their style? A skilful mix of electro, dance, soul and funk that makes everyone dance. And it works! The group already had two notable performances at Rock en Seine in 2015 and 2019. This Friday, festival-goers were out in large numbers again to junglecheerful compositions, especially carried by the voice of Lydia Kitto. At this Paris performance, several musicians and backing singers accompanied the trio and delighted the eyes and ears of the audience, who happily sang to “ Back to 74 ” And ” Casio “.

Back to Scene of the cascade for an excellent Soul wax Concert, our favorite of the third day! The Dewaele brothersalso known as the electronic duo 2manydjs, have been delighting us for almost 30 years. After releasing several acclaimed albums in the late 90s and early 2000s, the Belgian electronic rock band kept a low profile in the following years. But the band has not stopped performing. This summer Soul wax played a number of dates, including a stop in Rock en Seinemuch to our delight.

On the Cascade stage, the two brothers pulled out all the stops. In addition to David and Stephen Dewaele And Stefan Van Leuven Behind their modular synthesizers, Friday evening’s audience enjoyed a live performance by three outstanding drummers on raised structures. Among them? Blake Davis right, Aurora Bennett in the middle, and the talented Igor Cavalera left. Metal fans know him well as he co-founded the Brazilian band Sepultura (with his brother Max). Since his departure in 2006, Igor Cavalera has multiplied his projects, notably with Cavalera Conspiracy and Soulwax.

The result? On Friday evening Soul wax The set was incredibly beautiful, fascinating and powerful. Carried by perfect sound quality, incredible lighting, the transcendent beats of the three drummers and the voices of Stephen Dewaele And Laima Leyton (Igor’s wife), the Belgian band’s show literally blew us away and conquered us! Thanks to them for this unforgettable musical moment.

Finally, the electronic artist, whom many – including many foreigners – were expecting this Friday in Rock en Seine: Fred again. The artist, who writes, composes and produces for several major international artists such as Ellie Goulding, Charli XCX, Ed Sheeran and P!nk, was eagerly awaited at the Domaine national de Saint-Cloud for his second appearance at Rock en Seine. The first was in 2022. This time, the London-based producer, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist pulled out all the stops and offered an extensive setlist of his own compositions. As the icing on the cake, the electronic artist took to the air at several points, playing from a moving catwalk on stage and even in the orchestra pit!
