Will a Big 12 football team reach 9-0?

Will a Big 12 football team reach 9-0?

Welcome to Fact or Fiction Friday. Every Friday I give our Facebook and message board fans the chance to ask the most intriguing questions from the Big 12 Conference, and I’ll tell you if they’re going to come true or if they’re going to fail. Now let’s get down to business and see what we have in store this week.

Colorado makes it to the bowl game

fiction: I know there are a lot of betting slips that have Colorado winning the Big 12, but I am not one of those people. In fact, I think Colorado is going to have a rude awakening this season. Although I With the Shedeur Sanders/Travis Hunter combo, there are just so many question marks on this team. The trenches were a big problem last season and that’s not necessarily something you can fix by cleaning it up and filling it with guys from the transfer portal. I have the Buffaloes at 11thth in the Big 12, meaning they will likely be 4-8 or 5-7 at the end of the season.

Someone will go 9-0 in the Big 12 game

Fiction: There are some great teams in this conference, but no one is going to go undefeated in the Big 12. This conference is the most competitive conference in all of college football, and I just have a hard time imagining anyone coming through without a single scratch. Now are we going to see a team in Arlington with only one or two losses? Probably, but going 9-0 in the Big 12 is extremely difficult. This conference is an absolute meat grinder.

Utah will reach 11-1 during the regular season

Fact: I’m one of those people who thinks Utah will win the Big 12. I mentioned them in my summer series as one of the top three teams in the conference. They have a very favorable schedule and if I had to say where they’ll have a slip-up, I’d say it’ll either happen in Stillwater or Orlando.

Oklahoma State will have a better record than Oklahoma

Fact: With the Sooners moving to the SEC, they have no chance of winning nine or ten games this season. I know Oklahoma State’s win total has been set at 7.5, but they are still a nine or ten win team. The Cowboys are in my top three. I’m sorry, Oklahoma fans, but you’re not even going to finish in the top half of the SEC this season.

Utah will win the Big 12

Fact: I’ve mentioned before that the Utes are my favorite to win the Big 12 Conference. They have one of the best defenses not only in the Big 12, but in the entire country. On offense, they get quarterback Cam Rising and tight end Brant Kuithe back. They also have some key starters returning and they brought in a few solid players from the transfer portal. To me, they’re the most complete team in the conference and when you combine that with a looser schedule, I think they’re the favorites.

Brett Yormark should rethink next year’s schedule to continue the longest uninterrupted rivalry in college football

Fact: Brett Yormark doesn’t miss very often, if ever, but there’s no doubt that not having Farmageddon as a protected rivalry game is a huge mistake for the conference. While I’m glad we get at least one more game after this season in Ireland of all places, at least it’s being played. These two schools have played each other every year since 1917, and it’s a shame that this series ends in 2026. I think we have plenty of time to get this right. This is one of the best rivalries in the Big 12, let’s not let it slip away because of some silly scheduling. Let’s make it happen.
