The return of Dr. Cox’s Scrubs revival will make me feel old for a very specific reason

The return of Dr. Cox’s Scrubs revival will make me feel old for a very specific reason

Summary

  • Dr. Cox’s role as chief medical officer may change in the coming
    Scrubs
    resuscitation.
  • Scrubs
Season 10 could be set in real time, which means the time jump will have to be taken into account.
  • JD and Turk’s children will be teenagers in the new edition of “Scrubs,” reflecting the passage of time since the original series.

With the Scrubs After the showrunner confirmed that the series will be revived, I can’t help but look forward to the return of my favorite sitcom, but there is one little thing about Dr. Percival “Perry” Cox that also makes me feel ancient when Scrubs finally returns to the screens. John C. McGinley played the problematic but brilliant doctor in all nine seasons of Scrubsso I am almost certain that he will be part of the coming revival. He was by far the most capable of all the doctors in Scrubsas evidenced by his rise to chief physician in season 8.

The show was canceled after Scrubs 9’s failed reinterpretation of the formula in 2010. So I think it is safe to assume that by the time the sitcom returns, at least fifteen years will have passed since the last episode aired. The semi-confirmed Scrubs The revival will obviously have to take this time jump into account, and I’m looking forward to seeing how all the characters’ lives have evolved in that time. What I’m not quite as excited about is having to confront my age when the new stories begin.

Dr. Cox from “Scrubs” will be older in the new edition than Dr. Kelso in the pilot episode of the original series

John C. McGinley is in his mid-60s

When Scrubs First broadcast in October 2001, Dr. Bob Kelso actor Ken Jenkins was 63 years old. At the time, I considered him a (rather) old man, partly because his experience far exceeded that of the others at Sacred Heart Hospital. At the same time, John C. McGinley was 42, so I would imagine Dr. Cox was about the same age. My perception of time took on a new understanding when I realized that if Scrubs returns, Dr. Cox will be even older than Kelso at the beginning of the sitcom.

It could be several years before the revival, which would make the age comparison between Kelso and Cox even clearer to me if
Scrubs
is finally continued.

McGinley is now 65which means that Dr. Cox’s age will also be roughly the same when McGinley inevitably reprises the role. Although showrunner Bill Lawrence confirmed that he “I will definitely” revive Scrubshe has not presented a definitive timetable. For the sake of argument: If Scrubs Season 10 would start in a year, then Dr. Cox would be even more clearly in his mid-60s. However, the revival could still take a few years, which would make me even more aware of the age comparison between Kelso and Cox if Scrubs is finally continued.

Ken Jenkins is currently 83 years old but has not worked as an actor since 2019.

Dr. Cox’s age opens the door for the new perfect ending of “Scrubs”

Cox could retire as chief physician in the new edition of “Scrubs”

I always wanted Scrubs with JD as Chief of Surgery and Turk as Chief of Surgery. I loved watching them climb the career ladder together, so it felt like a natural conclusion to their intertwined friendship and professional dynamic. Although Turk ends Scrubs‘ original career as chief of surgeryJD leaves the hospital altogether. I accepted it as it was because Dr. Cox had just become chief and he definitely deserved the title. Thankfully, the massive time jump that is about to happen sets up the finale I’ve always wanted.

I can’t imagine a universe where McGinley doesn’t come back to bring Dr. Cox back to life, but the fact is that his character will already be the same age Kelso was when he retired as chief of surgery.

I can’t imagine a universe where McGinley doesn’t come back to bring Dr. Cox back to life, but the fact remains that his character will already be the same age as Kelso was when he retired as chief of surgery. So, Cox’s time as head of Sacred Heart could be short-lived in the Scrubs Revival. Depending on how long Scrubs‘ comeback continues, McGinley’s character could step down as Chief, meaning JD could take over the role. Even if Braff’s character still doesn’t work at Sacred Heart in the reboot, that would certainly be enough to bring him back for good.

Another detail of the Scrubs timeline shows how long the show has been off the air

All the kids in Scrubs will now be teenagers

JD and Kim check out their new baby in Scrubs

I would be surprised if Scrubs Season 10 didn’t fit the real world timeline. If that’s the case, then 15+ years have passed for the characters and the audience. Because they don’t appear in every episode, I often forget JD’s children and Turks. The firstborns of both characters are already in Scrubs as very young babies, but Scrubs9 confirms that Turk has had a second child, and Elliot is pregnant with JD’s second – although none of the new babies show up. Shockingly, all four infants will be at least in their mid-teens in Scrubs Season 10.

I want to see how the children grew up and what young people they have become, but it is still another disturbing reminder of how long it has been since Scrubs was most recently an active sitcom. It will also be interesting to see what kind of parents JD and Turk grew up to be since I last saw them. To mention Dr. Cox again, his children will also be a similar age and I can’t wait to see them all in the Scrubs revival and whether their parents’ relationships with each other will influence their various dynamics.
