Cincinnati Reds Minor League Match Report: August 23, 2024

Blake Dunn had three hits and scored three runs for Louisville, Kevin Abel threw eight shutout innings for Chattanooga in their win, Cam Collier hit three home runs in Dayton’s ninth straight win and Jose Montero threw four shutout innings as a relief pitcher in Daytona’s win.

Game Notes

Ovis Portes threw a perfect first inning. Then he walked the first batter of the second inning and threw two pitches to a second batter — but that second pitch would be the last one he threw in the game. It was a 93.9 mph fastball and he didn’t immediately show signs of injury, but he left the game after speaking with the trainer.

Yerlin Confidan continues. Since June 21, he has a batting average of .293/.404/.511 with 27 extra-base hits, 32 walks and 44 strikeouts in 44 games played.

Ricardo Cabrera went 3-5 on his first day without an injury on August 9. However, he went 0-16 in the next four games. Since then, he’s gone 9-27 (.333) with three doubles, three walks and seven runs batted in in seven games.

Ryan McCrystal had multiple hits for the first time in his career, but it was only his seventh career game.

Jose Montero lowered his ERA to 2.90 this season with 93.0 innings pitched. In his last three games, he threw 12.2 innings and allowed just one run.

Trent Hodgdon made his professional debut with a 2-inning save.
