BOUNTIFUL, Utah – A windy night in Bountiful turned into a defensive battle as the Bountiful Redhawks defeated the Farming Phoenix 17-12.
In the second week of high school football, the Bountiful Redhawks (2-0) hosted the Farmington Phoenix (0-2).

First quarter
After a Farmington punt, Bountiful needed one play to reach the end zone. Quarterback Brock McSwain took advantage of the play to pull the safety forward and then threw a perfectly placed ball to Emerson Geilman for a 39-yard touchdown.
The Redhawks’ lead grew to 10-0 when Landan Zayas made a 50-yard field goal.
Second quarter
Both defenses began to play to their strengths as high winds limited passing options and wreaked havoc on special teams.
After being forced to punt early in the third, Farmington ended a Bountiful drive with a big sack on an untouched rusher.
Farmington scored with a 52-yard field goal that went over the crossbar with 4:50 minutes left in the half to increase the lead to 10-3.
A bad snap by Bountiful gave Farmington’s offense a chance with 33 seconds left. It took the Phoenix eight seconds to score their first touchdown of the night. Kava Fiefia had complete freedom for a 27-yard touchdown pass from Will Peterson. The touchdown tied the game at 10-10 at halftime.

Third quarter
The Redhawks took advantage of the kick in the second half and drove into Farmington’s red zone with the wind at their backs. A sack pushed Bountiful out of the red zone and Zayas’ field goal attempt failed.
Farmington took over and penetrated Bountiful territory with a long pass play. However, the offense stalled, leading to a 32-yard field goal attempt. Bountiful’s Brock McSwain rushed around the corner and blocked the kick to give his team the chance.
Geilman took the field for the Redhawks and threw his team into Farmington’s half of the field. A personal foul put Bountiful in a goal-to-go situation before the final quarter.
Fourth quarter
Siaki Fekitoa hammered the ball over the goal line with 10:57 minutes left. Bountiful led 17-10 after the extra point.

Winston Robinson was in the right place at the right time when he intercepted a deflected pass for Bountiful. The Redhawks immediately gave possession back when Fekitoa dropped the ball inside the 30, giving Farmington a chance to tie the game.
The third turnover in as many minutes gave Bountiful the ball back and a chance to win the game. The Phoenix defense held firm and forced a punt. Another bad snap became a safety and the score was 17-12.
Bountiful’s defense held firm and got the ball back. Geilman and Fekitoa ran for first downs to secure the win.
