Three-year-old preschool student ‘sad’ after New Braunfels ISD transportation problems

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — A three-year-old New Braunfels ISD student missed her regular bus route home two days in a row. The school district is now investigating the second incident because she remained on the bus after all other students had gotten off.

Camilla is a preschool student in New Braunfels. Her mother tells KSAT that Camilla did not get off the bus after school on Wednesday, August 21 and Thursday, August 22.

Camilla’s mother tries to keep her identity secret while the school tries to investigate the case.

Her mother said she called the school on the first day and was told Camilla was at school, they didn’t put her on the bus and the mistake would not happen again.

Although this error did not occur the next day, another error did occur.

After school, Camilla has to take a bus from her preschool to another elementary school. At this elementary school, she was supposed to get off the first bus and change to a second bus to go home. That didn’t happen.

“I felt like she had been kidnapped,” her mother said.

“I called the school in a hurry and they said they didn’t have it,” she said.

So she called 911.

“I think I spent 20 or 30 minutes wondering where she was,” her mother said. “Nobody, nobody, in either school, nobody has her.”

“Then, at about 3:56 p.m., the school calls and says: We have her. We found her on the bus.”

It is a problem. New Braunfels ISD told KSAT it is investigating and sent the following statement:

“NBISD is aware of the situation and is currently investigating. At this time, we can assure you that the student was under the supervision of an NBISD employee at all times. We take the safety of our students very seriously.”

The district also said there were cameras on the bus.

However, Camilla’s mother said her child was alone.

“They said they told the bus driver to check, and then the bus driver went and looked and she was in there,” her mother said. “These buses don’t have air conditioning.”

Camilla is a girl of few words, but said the incident left her “sad”.

Camilla’s mother keeps her off the bus until she gets more answers about how this all happened.
