Morrisville and Durham police pursue leads for more than a week after 16-year-old found dead in car

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) – More than a week after a carjacking in Morrisville led to a police chase and later a fatal crash in Durham, Eyewitness News continues to ask questions.

A 16-year-old boy from Raleigh was killed in this accident.

Durham police told ABC11 on Friday they are working to identify a possible passenger in the car. Morrisville police also said they are working on search warrants to learn more about the case.

“On a Tuesday, anything can happen at any time of the day, it doesn’t matter,” said Daesean Harvin. “Just try to be aware of your surroundings.”

Harvin said he noticed several patrol cars on his way to work early last week and realized what he was seeing now. He passed a stolen white BMV SUV that was overturned on the side of the road on South Miami Boulevard in Durham.

Harvin lives in the complex in Morrisville. Investigators said there was a carjacking the same morning the car was found. Investigators said at least four masked people beat someone with pistols and stole the SUV.

Morrisville police began pursuing the suspected car thieves but then abandoned the pursuit.

Two hours passed and then the same car was found in Durham. The 16-year-old had been thrown out and the others had disappeared.
