Bulloch County Board of Commissioners lowers tax rate to 11.35 per thousand

At a specially called meeting to set the tax rate for the Board of Commissioners, a vote was taken to reduce the rate from 12.85 per thousand to 11.35 per thousand due to the significant growth in Bulloch County.

The Bulloch County Commissioners met in a special meeting on Friday, August 23, 2024, to set the tax rate for 2025.

In the presence of four commissioners Timmy Rushing And Anthony Simmons Since they were absent, the Board approved the general agenda without changes.

District Manager Tom Couch introduced the proposal to reduce the county’s tax rate from 12.85 to 11.35 per thousand. He explained that the reduction was due to natural growth from new developments in the area. The Board of Education had set its tax rate at 7.932 the previous evening. After a brief discussion, the commissioners unanimously approved the new tax rates for 2024.


District Attorney Jeff Akins Next, the Willow Hill Heritage Festival, scheduled to take place over Labor Day weekend, was discussed. The commission approved a food permit for the nonprofit event, which will be held at the Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center in Portal.

Since no one had signed up for public comment, the meeting moved to closing remarks. Chairman Thompson thanked everyone for their prayers and support during his recent health issues and shared that he was doing much better. The commissioners welcomed him back, noting that the previous meeting had run smoothly during his absence.
