Devin Townsend is pleased to announce the release of his new album “PowerNerd” out October 25, 2024 on Inside Out Music. Devin TownsendThe career of spans many different eras. He was the head of the Strong young ladthe backbone of the Devin Townsend Project and co-author of the country duo Victims of Coolwhile maintaining his productive and highly esteemed solo project. Now the new, multifaceted era begins with “PowerNerd”!
Devin’s comment on the new work, whose music was written in just 11 days:
It was a conscious decision. I spent so much time thinking about every aspect of my work. What would have happened if I hadn’t done it? Maybe I would have had the opportunity to be a little more direct with what I was trying to do. I was curious about the outcome and whether I could do it.

However, this aggressiveness is by no means the only thing that emerges from the 11 tracks of “PowerNerd”.Dreams of light“In comparison, it’s an impressive and dynamic four-minute ballad.”Younger Lover’ features an explosive opening before settling with lush synth verses and vocals, while “Falling apart” And “Jainism“Add textures to melodic acoustic introductions one at a time.
While PowerNerd’s music was written in less than two weeks, his lyrics were refined over a much longer period of time into a narrative of strength and healing. In ‘Falling apart‘, Devin tells himself to ‘keep the tension under control.’ ‘You have to believe that things are only going to get better,’ says the following track “gratitude“ he explains emphatically. These uplifting messages are also reflected in the title of the album.
Devin offers a definition:
I would say a power nerd is a person who takes a tendency that society deems weak or of little value, whether it’s empathy or lonerism or introversion, and turns it into some kind of personal strength. It’s like saying, “OK, yes, I’m sensitive to this, that and the other, but damn it, I’m going to do it! I’m going to do things with this sensitivity that is rooted in strength!”

In addition to expressing strength in difficult situations, “PowerNerd” opens the door to Devin‘s immediate future.
