Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly promises “darker” Agatha Christie film

Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly has suggested that Sir Kenneth Branagh’s latest star-studded Agatha Christie adaptation, A Haunting in Venice, is “a little darker” than its two predecessors.

In the film, which opens in theaters tomorrow (September 15), Reilly plays Rowena Drake, a retired opera singer who holds a séance on All Saints Day in post-war Venice to communicate with the spirit of her deceased daughter.

“It feels a little bit edgier, a little bit darker, and it has an intensity that I personally love,” the actress revealed in a recently released featurette.

“This story is just full of questions and it’s up to the audience to decide for themselves (what the answers are).”

Branagh, who reprises the role of master detective Hercule Poirot, added: “(Rowena) is such a complex character and Kelly portrays it with such sensitivity.”

The sequel has already set a new Rotten Tomatoes record and received the highest critics’ rating of the entire franchise.

At the time of this writing, The Haunting of Venice has a critics score of 78% from 99 reviews, beating 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express (61%) and last year’s Death on the Nile (62%).

“This is a fantastic evolution of the character of Hercule Poirot and the Agatha Christie franchise,” Branagh previously said of the film, which also stars Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Dornan, Emma Laird (Mayor of Kingstown) and Camille Cottin (Call My Agent).

“Based on a complex, little-known mystery story set in a visually stunning city during Halloween, the film is an incredible opportunity for us as filmmakers and we are excited about the chance to offer our loyal cinema audiences something truly spooky.”

“A Haunting in Venice” will be in theaters on September 15th.
