Key findings

  • According to long-time leaker eXtas1, 17 of them are said to be day-one releases.
  • So far, it has been officially confirmed that 4 day-one titles will be released on Xbox Game Pass in September 2024.

Microsoft plans to add 19 new titles Xbox Game Pass in September 2024, a well-known leaker has said. This claim suggests that September is on track to be the month with the most releases in 2024 for Xbox Game Pass.

Such a content-rich schedule would be in stark contrast to August 2024, which is currently shaping up to be the quietest month of the year for Microsoft’s subscription service. Specifically, the company has only confirmed or announced six titles for that month, or seven if you count the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Beta, which is scheduled to be released on Xbox Game Pass on August 30th. SOPA: The story of the stolen potato could increase that number to eight if it doesn’t miss the August 2024 release window, which is entirely possible since there is still no release date set as of August 23. For comparison, the most uneventful Xbox Game Pass months of the year so far have been May and July, which only saw 12 new titles each.

Xbox Game Pass reportedly adds 19 new games in September 2024

According to Spanish YouTuber eXtas1s, the pace of new Xbox Game Pass releases could finally pick up again in a few weeks. In one of his recent videos, the long-time leaker said that Microsoft plans to add 19 new titles to its subscription service throughout September 2024. 17 of them will be day-one games, according to the same source. This claim suggests that there are 15 XGP releases planned for next month that Microsoft has not yet announced. The remaining four, which have already been announced, are Star Truckers, Age of Mythology: Retold, Frostpunk 2And Ara: Untold Storyall titles from day one.

Confirmed Xbox Game Pass Releases in September 2024

  • September 3 – Star Trucker
  • September 4 – Age of Mythology: Retold
  • September 20 – Frostpunk 2
  • September 24 – Ara: Untold Story

If this information is accurate, September would set a new record for the number of Xbox Game Pass releases in a single month in 2024. That title currently belongs to April 2024, in which the service added 17 games to its ever-growing catalog. Granted, Microsoft immediately offset most of those releases by removing 14 titles from Xbox Game Pass in May 2024.

How many games have been added to Xbox Game Pass in each month of 2024 (so far)?

  • January: 13
  • February: 14
  • March: 14
  • April: 17
  • Can: 12
  • June: 14
  • July: 12
  • August: 6 (so far) or 7 if the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta is included
    • SOPA: Tale of the Stolen Potato is still missing, but is also due to be released this month
  • September: 5 confirmed, 19 rumors in total

The idea of Microsoft doubling down on day-one releases in September fits with the company’s upcoming changes to Xbox Game Pass tiers. Starting September 12, the service will introduce a new standard plan for consoles that doesn’t include day-one games. Xbox One and Series X/S users will therefore need to upgrade to the Ultimate edition of the service to continue to have access to new day-one releases.

In advance of this overhaul, Microsoft has discontinued the old Xbox Game Pass for consoles in mid-July 2024, but existing subscribers will still have access to it. If the company does indeed introduce 17 new day-one titles in September, such a move would help highlight the benefits of upgrading to XGP Ultimate.
