Harry Potter Quidditch Champions release date, game modes and more

Want to know the release date of Harry Potter Quidditch Champions? There was quite a bit of confusion about this game as there were rumors that Quidditch was part of Hogwarts Legacy, but it seems that the sport has been removed from the RPG. Quidditch is mentioned in Hogwarts Legacy in a teacher’s note with deletions, which states that Professor Phineas Black is to blame for the sport being put on hold at Hogwarts.

Instead, Unbroken Studios has been working on a standalone Quidditch sports game that has all the bells and whistles you’d expect from an annual series. As the name suggests, Harry Potter Quidditch Champions is set during the school days of the Boy Who Lived, meaning we might get the chance to face Harry’s Gryffindor team, who won the Inter-House Cup.

Harry Potter Quidditch Champions release date

Harry Potter Quidditch Champions will be released on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, as confirmed by the official trailer released by Warner Bros Games on July 29, 2024. The game will be released for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Warner Bros Games first revealed Harry Potter Quidditch Champions on X (formerly known as Twitter) in April 2023, along with a limited playtest signup. Playtests have been running for nearly a year to ensure developers can optimize gameplay and make changes to netcode.

Although Quidditch Champions features career and multiplayer modes, it costs $29.99/£24.99, half the usual price for a regular version of the game. There’s also a Deluxe Edition for $39.99/£34.99, which includes the Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw house pack, as well as 2,000 gold to spend on items to customise your avatar.

Game modes of Harry Potter Quidditch Champions

The four game modes of Quidditch Champions are:

  • career
  • Exhibition
  • Open training
  • Multiplayer

Career mode

Quidditch Champions’ main single-player content is Career Mode, which sees players progress through four championship cups. Players can play through this mode alone, switching between player roles: Chaser, Beater, Seeker, or Keeper. While playing one of these roles, your AI teammates will help you lead the line as you try to score points. You also have the option to play with up to two friends, with each player taking on a role as you battle against the computer.

Here is a breakdown of each championship trophy in Quidditch Champions:

  • Burrow Cup – learn the basics of flying and the importance of positioning and earn a trophy along the way.
  • Hogwarts House Cup – become the pride of your house as you fight to become the best team at Hogwarts.
  • Triwizard Cup – You are the best at your school, now it’s time to challenge rival academies to become the undisputed champion.
  • World Cup – Quidditch goes global as you compete against the best players in the world.

As you progress through your career, your character will earn skill points that you can use to unlock special moves and improve your overall stats. Depending on what position you like to play, you can spend your skill points on improving your main skills. For example, if you’re a Hunter, you’ll want to improve your tackles to take the ball away from your opponents. Likewise, a Seeker will want to spend skill points to increase their energy and travel faster and further than before. Your broom also affects your stats, so it’s important to choose a broom that suits you and offers the right combination of stats in terms of speed, durability, and agility.

Exhibition mode

Exhibition Mode lets you create custom Quidditch scenarios that can be played solo or in co-op against bots. To unlock teams and maps, you’ll need to progress through Career Mode and experience them first. It’s unclear if you need to win the Cup to unlock everything in Exhibition Mode, but it’s likely you will.

You can choose the teams for each side, from house teams like Hogwarts, Beauxbaton and Durmstrang to international teams like the United Kingdom and the United States. If you want to set up a scenario where your Hogwarts side faces Viktor Krum’s Bulgarian team, nothing will stop you. You also have the option to choose from 11 maps, including several versions of Hogwarts with different weather conditions like snow and rain. Finally, there are five difficulty modes to choose from, from easy to expert level.

Open training

Before jumping into multiplayer, test your skills in the open practice mode. This gives you a chance to pack up your broom and fly around an open arena, so to speak, to learn your surroundings and your physical limits. It’s also worth trying out all the positions so you can find out what role you want to play online. Don’t get stuck playing Keeper if you know deep down you’d rather be a Seeker.

Multiplayer

Finally, there is the multiplayer mode, where you can play either alone or with up to two other human players. The first team to reach 100 points wins the game. Although each team consists of six players, multiplayer games feature human players competing 3v3, so you will always be paired up with and competing against other players.

Due to the 6v6 team composition, players must choose which roles they want to take on. The roles are split into three combinations: Hunter/Keeper, Hunter/Brawler, and Hunter/Seeker. You can switch between the two roles during the game, with a bot taking over for you if you decide to switch roles.

Quidditch Champions features crossplay across all platforms it is playable on, so you don’t have to worry about your platform’s player base.

Harry Potter Quidditch Champions Customization

You have the ability to customize not only your avatar and hero characters like Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory, but also the other five members of your team. Hero characters can be modified with predefined alternate outfits, while player-created avatars offer significantly more customization options.

Here are all the ways you can customize characters in Quidditch Champions:

  • Outfits
  • Hairstyles and color
  • Body types
  • Emotes
  • Personal insignia
  • Gorse paths
  • Victory celebrations

Certain unlockable customization options require Winged Keys to access locked items in The Vault. These keys can be obtained by completing daily and weekly challenges. There are also career challenges, some of which unlock gold that can be spent on cosmetics.

Harry Potter series creator JK Rowling has made a number of transphobic remarks on social media in recent years. Warner Bros. owns the license to make Harry Potter games. While the details of this deal aren’t public and WB Games says “JK Rowling is not directly involved in the development of the game,” it’s likely that as the creator and owner of the Harry Potter IP, she receives royalties from its sales.
