LINCOLN, Nebraska (KLKN) – Police have reached a dead end in their investigation into a Fourth of July attack.

A Lincoln police spokeswoman said Thursday that “despite thorough investigations,” investigators had exhausted all leads but did not yet have any suspects.

On the night of July 4, someone fired an artillery shell from a pickup truck at a group of people in a driveway in northwest Lincoln, according to police.

The group responded by “mistakenly” chasing a 12-year-old child, police said. Investigators do not believe the child was involved in the fireworks incident.

After the 12-year-old was caught, he was attacked, the LPD said.

Investigators interviewed witnesses and reviewed video evidence to identify those involved.

“The Lincoln Police Department takes all acts of violence extremely seriously and is committed to ensuring that all cases are thoroughly investigated,” the spokeswoman said in a statement.

Anyone with information should call LPD at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
