Hello friends. Welcome to the 3rd final round of the Junior Pan Pacs 2024. Given how the first two nights of the meet went, we should be in for another exciting round tonight. This is set to be the shortest final round yet and is expected to last approximately 90 minutes.

After an electrifying 4×200 freestyle relay opener on Thursday night, 17-year-old American Kennedi Dobson posted a new personal best of 4:10.79 in the girls’ 400 freestyle this morning. She led the field in the heats, with her American teammate Madi Mintenko taking 2nd place overall in 4:11.01. Mintenko is still the favorite in this race as she holds a career best of 4:07.53, which is the fastest career best in this field by nearly 2 seconds.

The boys’ 400m freestyle should also be a great race. American 17-year-old Aiden Hammer made a statement in the heats this morning by setting a new, great personal best of 3:51.65 to set the fastest time. He will have his work cut out for him, however, as teammate Luka Mijatovic, 15, will also be competing tonight. Mijatovic holds a career best of 3:50.71 and has been in top form this week. Japanese duo Kazushi Imafuku and Asaki Nishikawa ran 3:52.18 and 3:52.36 respectively this morning and are both serious contenders for the gold medal. Nishikawa has the fastest career best in the field, having run as fast as 3:50.41.

American Charlotte Crush, 16, led the field in the girls’ 100-meter butterfly by a solid margin this morning, clocking a time of 58.55. That performance was just shy of her personal best of 58.45. She will have to contend with teammate Leah Shackley, 18, who holds a career-best time of 57.98.

Shackley is pulling double duty tonight as she is also the top seed in the girls’ 200 backstroke, the next event after the 100 butterfly. Shackley, who won gold the other night with a meet-record performance in the 100 backstroke, swam a time of 2:09.36 this morning to secure the top seed for the final. Teammate Teagan O’Dell swam a second-place time of 2:09.89 and they were the only swimmers in the field to go under 2:12 this morning.

After winning the boys’ 100m backstroke comfortably a few nights ago, Canadian Aiden Norman dominated the heats of the boys’ 200m backstroke this morning. The 18-year-old swam a time of 1:58.11, just shy of his personal best of 1:57.75. Norman was the only swimmer in the field to stay under 2:00 this morning.
