Award goes to the best tight end in the country

LARAMIE, Wyo. (August 9, 2024) – The Cowboys added another player to the preseason waiting list on Friday: Tight End John Michael Gyllenborg Mention on the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List. The award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end and the recipient is chosen by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee.

He was the only player from the Mountain West Conference named on the list.

Gyllenborg was named to the Preseason All-MW team in July. He played in all 13 games and started four times, three of which were the final three games of the season. He caught 23 passes for 360 yards and scored three touchdowns. Gyllenborg caught an 89-yard touchdown pass against Hawaii, the longest of his career, and the longest passing touchdown of the season for Wyoming.

He finished the game against the Rainbow Warriors with a career-high 128 yards. Gyllenborg recorded a career-high five catches against Texas Tech, including the game-tying touchdown pass on fourth down in overtime.
