While Avatar: Fire and Ashes has to bring back many storylines, the sequel has to pay off, an important build-up from Avatar: The Way of Water. Since there are so many upcoming Avatar Movies, it is easy to lose track of the storylines of the franchise. There is Jake Sully’s story, the story of his children, his lover Neytiri’s feud with Spider, Spider’s connection to his father Miles Quaritch, Jake’s own battle with Quartich, and all that without even mentioning the main conflict of the franchise. The Avatar The series mainly deals with the invasion of Pandora by humanity.
Jake’s role in the original film was to join the fight to save Pandora, but Avatar: The Way of Water focused more on him and Neytiri’s children. Avatar: The Way of Water’In the end, one of their children was dead and another had gained independence by defying their parents. As tragic as Neteyam’s death was, Lo’ak’s decision to disobey both his father and the Metakyina by aiding Payakan the Tulkun ultimately saved countless lives. Payakan, the outcast Tulkun, heroically destroyed the RDA’s ship, allowing the Metkayina to temporarily defeat them after suffering heavy losses at the beginning.

He has done nothing wrong, but the other Tulkun still avoid him in Avatar: The Way of WaterEnd. His story naturally leads to a conclusion in which his community realizes that he was right and they were wrong, but that has not happened yet. Therefore Avatar: Fire and Ashes must prioritize the termination of Payakan, the Tulkun Avatar: The Way of Water story right after his dishearteningly unfinished character arc.
