BCSO man arrested for fentanyl on Fentanyl Awareness Day

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A Callaway man was arrested by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office on several drug charges on August 21, Fentanyl Awareness Day, according to Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford.

Matthew Keith, 40, was arrested and is a convicted felon, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators from the BCSO’s Special Investigations Division (SID) said they had gathered information that Keith was dealing fentanyl and other narcotics in the Bay County area.

Keith was stopped on 23rd Street in Panama City. A sniffer dog on the scene reportedly gave officers a clear indication of the presence of narcotics in Keith’s vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, approximately 60 grams of fentanyl, 7.2 grams of pressed fentanyl tablets, 2 grams of cocaine, 3.2 grams of methamphetamine, Suboxone, alprazolam and a firearm with an altered serial number were found in the vehicle, according to BCSO.

Keith is a convicted felon and was charged with the following: trafficking in more than 28 grams of fentanyl, possession of cocaine with intent to resell, possession of methamphetamine with intent to resell, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of a weapon with an altered serial number.

There was also an arrest warrant out for Keith for violating probation.
